And we shall call her...
The latest popular question has been have we decided on a baby name yet. The answer is yes. When I got pregnant last year, I started a name list right away and kept adding to it after the second pregnancy. The funny thing is I was rooting for a boy, yet our list of boy's names was half of the list of girl's names. I guess I jinxed myself in a way. It finally came down to Maya Beth and Inara Grace. Shawn and I finally decided on Inara Grace. Of course, we've had mixed reactions. Yes, Inara is very different, but I really wanted something unique. Growing up, I was the only Marisa in my class and I loved having a different name. I wanted my daughter to have a similar experience. As we've been telling people, my favorite response came from Kristi, who said that the name reminds her of a fairy. That's perfect! I agree that Inara does have a mystical, magical feel to it. Plus, last week my niece Avery said Inara, so now the name is definitely staying. I know someone will ask what it means, so I'll respond now. I have no idea. Shawn and I took the name from a sci-fi TV show we love. She is the petite, beautiful, smart, witty, worldly, latina-esque character, which I'm hoping will be ways I describe my daughter.

There is also a singer/songwriter named Inara. Inara George, she has a myspace page, her music is very pop and sounds like someone it would be okay to share names with.
It is a lovely name.

I've never heard of Inara George. I checked out her music. Not too bad. She reminds me of someone. Looks-wise maybe Natalie Imbruglia maybe? I agree: she seems like a nice person to share names with. A whole heck of a lot better than Britney that's for sure. Thanks for the info.
So is it pronounced In-ar-a or In-ay-ra? I was thinking In-ar-a sounds like its spelled. I totally agree with Kristi! When I read it, I thought of a garden fairy or a pixie or something. Oooooh! Sea mermaid! In her sea bedroom! I love it!!!!

It's pronounced In-R-Ah. That's my best phonetic breakdown. I love the comparison to a mermaid too. Fairy, mermaid, it all makes sense to me given I love such mythological creatures.
I love unique names! That's a lovely name! It's feminine but not froofroo, there is strength behind it. :D
